If you read any of this it should be: Don't go here.
I purchased a discounted price for a BriteSmile teeth whitening through Groupon. I purchased the procedure for $185 (advertised at $600 but there is always a special on their website for $300). I thought I had gotten a great deal so I went ahead and did the procedure right away.
My teeth are not badly stained (never had a cigarette, cup of coffee, or red wine in my life). The diet soda in my life had made some difference in the color of my teeth. I wasn't looking for a dramatic change, just a freshening up.
When I arrived at 4:30pm on a weekday, there was only one employee (Michael) in the whole office. He had me fill out some paperwork, which he never looked at. I was brought back, brushed my teeth, and then he started to do lots of things to my mouth. He never ever explained what he was doing. I had to ask him to determine my color of teeth before the procedure. I should have known then that something was off with this place, but I was already in so deep, I stayed put. Michael continued to apply several things to my gums, teeth, and lips. I asked what chemicals were being used and he just kept referring to the plasma blue light.
I was left by myself in a room with a blindingly blue light pointed at my teeth for 20+ minutes at a time. Michael would come back every 20 minutes, suction my teeth and apply the next coating. In between he was never around. He was in a completely different room, and I was never given a button to push or any way to contact him if I was having discomfort or pain. In the last 20 minutes, my mouth really started to hurt, but I was on my own. When the last 20 minutes was up, I sat there waiting. He finally came back, peeled the layer off my gums, and look all of the stuff out of my mouth. My bottom lip was on FIRE! I felt like I had been burned. I went to the sink as instructed and washed off my mouth and then brushed with mouthwash.
Michael gave me a paper and told me I was done. I had to specifically ask for instructions. He was about to send me on my way, but I asked to compare the after color to before. He then took out the color chart and wanted to do it at the front desk. I explained that first that was unprofessional to do that basically in the mall, and second it was completely different lighting than the back rooms. He said it was more natural lighting. I bet it is. According to him my teeth were 3 shades lighter, but I see no discernible difference. I didn't expect significant, but I expected something. My teeth are sensitive, but I expected that. As I write this, my bottom lip is swollen and burned. I explained this to him before I left, but all he could do was deny his culpability. My lip should not have been burned. My bottom gums have several burns where there is obvious tissue damage. When I showed him my gums, he blamed the suction machine. I understand that there are risks with any procedure, but with his lack of care, and no medical staff there, I was surprised more people haven't Yelped about their problems with this place.
I wanted a receipt as I left (as anyone would expect), and he told me that he couldn't figure out how to print it. What? Now I was worried that a guy who just did this medical procedure on my mouth (and don't be fooled, it's definitely a medical procedure) couldn't even figure out how to print a receipt. I ended up leaving without a receipt but he promised one would be mailed to me. We'll see if that happens.
The other BIG problems:
- All their advertising is FALSE. It all says that the procedures are 'performed' or 'administered' by a dentist. There was no dentist in the whole building. I asked about a dentist as I was leaving (after I read all the paperwork that had a place for a dentist's signature on it). Michael at first implied he was a dentist. When I asked again, he said that there was a dentist but that he was rarely there (I am guessing never). According to all of their advertising and forms, my mouth was to be examined by a dentist before the procedure. It never was.
- I was given follow up instructions saying that if I had problem to contact them at the after hours number, but the number was left blank.
*I do not believe I was given different treatment because I had a discounted price. I believe I would have received the same level of service (or lack thereof) even if I had paid full price.
**This review is about THIS location (Houston Galleria). I used BriteSmile because my cousin who is a dentist in another state recommended them. She is a licensed dentist and worked her way through dental school working at a BriteSmile in Boston. She believes that the BriteSmile technique works better than what she has in her office (Zoom teeth whitening). I am not saying one shouldn't use BriteSmile, I just think this location SUCKS.
I was stupid for not asking more questions. Do yourself a favor and ask more questions than I did before a procedure such as this.

Jessica Cook in the AXE Susan Glenn Commercial with Kiefer Sutherland. She sings too!
Jessica Cook recently played Susan Glenn in the AXE Susan Glenn Commercial, with Kiefer Sutherland. It’s an amazing commercial (with quarter million views so far on youtube).
Obviously a talented actress, hear Jessica sing in the cover I filmed for her - “Runaway Soul” by Ruthie Foster.
Here’s a cover of “Runaway Soul” that we did. This is raw footage and we did it in one take. Jammin’ & singin’ the blues. )

I ordered the trial online on Sunday, January 31, 2010. I never received an e-mail confirmation with a customer service number. I never received the trial product. So I called to cancel the order on February 15, 2010. They could not pull up my order by the order number or by my name? Odd, huh? They said they needed the first 4 and last four numbers of my credit card?
I told the lady she should be able to pull it up by the order number. It's the number they assigned to me. She could not. Then she asked for my Social Security number? That's when I said goodbye.
I did receive my trial on February 19, 2010 with no customer service number and no letter on how to use or how to cancel my order. My credit card has been charged $87.47 for a full product. I only just received a trial-sized product, and I did not receive it until well after the trial period. I never received a full-size product, but my card was charged for a full product on February 16. I've had to cancel my credit card and dispute the charges.
